Frequently asked questions

Common questions about installing and using Aquamor replacement filters at home.

How hard is installation?

Installation is tool-free and a do-it-yourself job that takes only minutes. If you need a hand, support is available Monday through Friday, 8 to 5 Pacific, at 1-866-218-8473.

How long does a filter last?

About 6 months, or 200 to 300 gallons depending on model, whichever comes first. See your filter's product page for its exact rated capacity.

Should I lubricate the O-ring?

The O-ring is pre-lubricated. A little vegetable oil helps if it needs it.

I see black particles or dark water. Is that a problem?

No. Those are harmless carbon fines on first use. Run about 3 gallons through to clear them, or pre-soak the filter for about an hour before installing.

The water looks cloudy.

Cloudiness is trapped air. Run about 3 gallons through or pre-soak the filter for 1 to 2 hours. It clears within 36 hours.

Water comes out warm.

The reservoir needs time to cool after installation. Warm water at first is normal.

Flow is slow or there's no water.

This is usually an install issue or trapped air. Reinstall the filter securely, or submerge it for 1 to 2 hours, then try again.

My TDS reading didn't drop. Did the filter fail?

No. These filters reduce specific contaminants and chlorine taste and odor, not dissolved minerals. An equal or higher TDS reading does not indicate failure. If mineral removal is your goal, use a reverse osmosis system.

Are the filters recyclable?

The housings are polypropylene (number 5) and recyclable where accepted.

I have a coconut allergy. Are these safe?

Yes. The coconut-shell carbon is high-temperature processed, so any allergens are rendered inert.
